Nuru Gel
A colorless, odorless massage medium derived from nori seaweed.
Nuru gel is the essential medium for nuru massage, extracted from Porphyra yezoensis (nori seaweed). It's rich in minerals including magnesium, potassium, and iodine, along with vitamins A, C, and B12. The gel is water-soluble, hypoallergenic, and creates an ultra-slippery surface for full-body gliding techniques.
Unlike massage oils, it leaves no residue and actively nourishes the skin.
How it is used in practice
During a professional nuru bodywork session, the practitioner introduces the nuru gel early on, typically after the client has settled comfortably on the massage table. It is applied gradually, often starting with a small amount warmed to body temperature, allowing the skin to adjust. This substance facilitates the signature long, gliding strokes across broad areas of the body, creating a continuous flow of movement. Clients experience a unique, frictionless sensation as the bodywork unfolds. Unlike traditional oils, the gel doesn't absorb quickly, maintaining its slipperiness throughout the session. Post-session, its water-soluble nature makes for effortless removal with just water, leaving the skin feeling clean and moisturized.
